Windows 7 RC test drive..and other stuffs

Windows 7 RC or release candidate was announce by Microsoft which became available to the public on the 5th of May. Release candidate means that the software could well be a version of the final product that will be launched in 2010. When the beta for Windows 7 first released, i managed to download but i never had the time to play with it due to exams and then i just got lazy. So when this came out, i went ahead and downloaded a copy and got my key to the product.

Although this is a release candidate, it is not really advised to run it as your primary operating system. So either you can install it in a different partition, creating to OS environment or you could just use a virtualization software. The current best software out there for home users would be the VMWare workstation.

What this software does is it allows you to boot up any OS with the expense of taking up a small amount of space in your hard disk and also you ram. So you can run two OS simultaneously. One thing to be noted is if you are running a 32-bit OS, you can not run a 64-bit version on the VMWare. You can only run it when your base OS is 64-bit.

And if you do not have enough memory to spare, you would be suffering as even i allocated 2GB of ram to the virtual machine, it still lags pretty badly. Maybe because i do not have a good cpu. A quad core processor would run it perfectly. Well, anyhow, it's no harm to try it out. Just to test and see the looks and feel of it.

Here we go. If the pictures are too small, you could always drop by to my flickr page.

Here's the VMWare configuration page. We need to power the virtual machine on !

When i first turn it on, it's quite fast when booting even as a virtual machine. I was quite impressed with it. Usually vista takes a minute or two.

Here's the main windows ! If you notice, there are no more tabs on the taskbar when you open programs or windows. Instead they are replaced by icons. Although sometimes i do prefer to read the name of the program or task that i am about to switch to. It practically has a explorer/library function when you open a folder. You can actually categorize your files in the different forms and it can be located no matter where the file is in the computer as long as it's in the library. Just like using a media player.

For paint lovers, there's your new interface. All sorts of new stuffs you can do!

The version that is currently out is the ultimate version. So you would have access to all the functions available. The new IE 8 as in display!

Logging off.

The Verdict.

I'm not too sure about what to say because i'm running it as a virtual machine and at times it's kinda slow. But it definitely looks promising. It looks and feels like Vista but it's different in terms of efficiency and also organizing data. There are loads of other features that i did not have the time to explore. But if all comes well, as in no software compatibility problems, it would definitely be the next big thing after Windows XP!

This is definitely something to look forward to.

On other stuffs, i've been cleaning and reorganizing my PC both physically and innerly, shall i say. I've move my PC from bottom to top. Mostly because i felt it need more fresh air and i need more space under my table.

It looks kinda messy. My PC takes up half of the space on my table. I may plan to reshift it again but don't know to where. I might just bring out one of the tables as study table outside in the living room and have one as my PC table in the room.

This is how my Vista looks now. Just for the heck of it. Although my CPU still burns at 50Celcius even on idle mode. But it looks nice. Lol.

After seeing a few of my friends taking time to blog about their internship experience daily. I too am considering doing it. I don't have internet connection at my work place and to have one i would have to apply for it because working in a place like a bank, you need Black and White. But it's a good practice to write about what happen so that the next time, i can ponder back and see all the bad and the good from this experience.

I guess i'll be heading to bed.

And oh yea. The results of the Manchester Derby. How could i forget.

Manchester United 2 - 0 Manchester City.

Goals from Ronaldo and Tevez saw Manchester United sink Manchester City in this exciting derby match. United was superb in the first half but started poorly in the second half, making Sir Alex Ferguson made some changes which saw Ronaldo substituted for Scholes. He did not understand the decision of the Gaffer and threw a tantrum. Overall it was a great game, superb performance by Nemanja Vidic. You could hear the stadium chanting his name and singing Nemanja, Ohh! With Ferdinand, Carrick by the sidelines, it was a solid performance by United that brought them back to the top of the table. And by next saturday against Arsenal, provided a win is achieved on the weekdays against Wigan. United may be looking at a 18th and second consecutive League Trophy.

Off to bed now.

Until Then!
